Designing Sites for Nonprofits - UX Booth UX Booth

A murb'ed feed, posted almost 10 years ago filed in usability & productivity.

I don’t do much consumer focused stuff anymore, but I do remember discussions with graphic designers who’s designs had been heralded by their clients and then it would be me trying to convince them that they probably shouldn’t aim for all these custom images as it would require them to photoshop every image into multiple sizes and add certain fx processing with some crazy text effect or logo added. In the end that often turned out to be true, after the designer left supporting them in the creation many articles would appear without images, or badly sized ones. Oh the horror. (Of course it was hard, almost impossible, to do this kind of processing automatically, and the client was very fond of the creative examples made by the designer… Still, sometimes you’ve got to be realistic and focus on the goals instead of pure aesthetics.
