Last month was full of climate records, from the warmest July on record for the contiguous U.S. (surpassing the Dust Bowl era) to a tie for the warmest July globally. At the same time, a potentially historic El Niño continues to develop. Long-term warming of the tropics, combined with El Niño, has already clearly pushed sea surface temperatures to record levels for this time of year.
