Meestal schrijf ik hier over technologie. Bij technologie wordt vaak gestreefd naar efficientie. Voor leven is dat niet altijd het beste. Akkers overbemesten met stikstof, monoculturen door met gif te spuiten, de natuur gaat steeds verder achteruit. Door biologisch te eten hoop ik daaraan minder bij te dragen.
Maar efficientie is wel handig, ik sleur niet graag iedere dag door de supermarkt (en al heb ik geen auto, dan zou ik ook niet iedere zaterdag m'n auto willen volladen). Boodschappen laten bezorgen is een uitkomst. Hieronder een lijst biologische supermarkten die bezorgen.

As a web-developer you typically assume that your users are always using your app on-line. When asked a year ago to start developing an app for the art-consulting firm QKunst I was, however, specifically asked for a tool that had to work in bunkers. Bunkers where having a solid internet connection was typically the exception. No problem, I read about HTML5 and offline app-cache: I thought I could fix that. More about that soon.

Zou het mogelijk zijn om vuistregel te definiëren voor of iets nu beter een online applicatie kan zijn, draaiend op een externe server, of een lokaal draaiende app? In de evolutie van computer systemen lijkt het er op alsof we steeds zitten te flip-floppen tussen het draaien van de applicatie op het apparaat dat we gebruiken en het draaien van de applicatie op een apparaat ver weg. Vroeger hadden we terminals gekoppeld aan mainframes, toen kwamen er desktop PC's die alles lokaal deden en nu twijfelen we tussen Apps lokaal en webapps in “de cloud”, ook ik.
Gevoelsmatig zeg ik (op dit moment): Krantenapps? TV apps? Geen lokale apps: gewoon volledig online. Fotografeer apps, tekstschrijf apps, zinvol, waarom online doen? Maar het interessante is natuurlijk het grijze midden. De door jouw geselecteerde muziek? Een feedreader, met feeds die jij hebt geselecteerd? Schrijfapplicaties die je in staat stellen samen te werken…
Een abonnement op een muziekdienst. Erg handig. Alle muziek direct voorhanden. Legaal en wanneer je het wilt. Spotify biedt het. Gaaf. Je zou er bijna een abonnement op nemen, iets dat ook niet duur is. Maar toch wringt er iets. In 1984 worden archieven aangepast om de historie te vervalsen (wat me misschien wel tot de enigszins paranoïde vraag brengt: krijg ik als ik zoek in de archieven van mijn krant, of Google, wel alle resultaten?). Herinneringen aan iets dat niet meer terug te vinden is zal wel niet gebeurd zijn. Ik zal me wel vergist hebben. “Weet je dat het toen nog heel gewoon was om mensen te horen vloeken in nummers? Ik zal eens wat nummers uit die periode laten horen…” Totdat blijkt dat alles keurig aangepast aan de tijd te is en gecensureerd te zijn.
Deze gedachtes zouden echt paranoïde zijn wanneer geen recente reeds bekende voorbeelden zijn. Amazon heeft echter verschillende boeken teruggetrokken en ook Apple is bekend om haar weigering en/of achteraf terugtrekken …

There seems to be a problem with embedding quicktime video when XHTML strict is being used. Solving our problem with the <embed>-tag is no option. But do we have, to have quicktime working on (@ Windows machines) for IE as well as Mozilla users, to use non-validating code, or work with javascript workarounds?Update: More up to date information on this matter can be found on age's site. Embedding Quicktime video is not as easy for a webdesigner as one would guess. Simply using the <object>-tag following the rules set by the w3c doesn't work (for Mozilla it does, but not for IE).I try using the data tag for referring to the original content, and the type attribute for assigning the right mimetype.
