RStudio

RStudio is a graphical front-end to R. I’ve used R in the past but accepted it as being too user unfriendly to the more social sciences minded people that I understood universities taught them to use SPSS. With RStudio I don’t think this is still a valid reason. One could actually learn this and no longer be hooked to a closed-source package (remember that SPSS was never considered to be user friendly either). The only ‘catch’ is that they also sell a closed source version as their open source version is AGPL licensed. This means you cannot (in any way) use it to build a closed-source statistics package using this. The data can still stay private though.
