Apps are a great commercial succes. Every new operating system is claimed to be doomed. Still, most people use only 3 apps, 80% of the time (and 10 apps total 96% of the time).
While we cherish simple, little and focussed, these constitute a too limited view on what software could be. Not because simple, little and focussed is bad, but because many apps lack an important bit: interconnectivity. Most apps are silos.

Like reopening an airport that has never been able to run profitably even in times when the state was still subsidising it with its military presence. Net na het losbarsten van het mediageweld rond Wikileaks eind vorig jaar  concludeerde ik dat ik de ethiek van de hackers achter Wikileaks duidelijk vond (informatie moet vrij zijn) en dat deze mij daarom aansprak. Ik waardeer het nog steeds vanuit een soort ‘Occam’s razor’ redenering: simpele verklaringen zijn te prefereren boven ingewikkeldere verklaringen. In de argumenten van Wikileaks tegenstanders vond ik vooral cirkelredeneringen vanuit angst en conservatisme; geen duidelijke uitleg hoe een verandering naar een meer open samenleving echt slecht zou kunnen zijn. In een normale toestand is informatie vrij toegankelijk. Mobile app development wordt steeds gemakkelijker met frameworks zoals Joapp, welke ik deze maand kon toevoegen aan het rijtje toe kon voegen als jQuery Mobile , jQTouch, PhoneGap en meer…  Hoe of wat mobile app development is iets dat bij The Bean Machine ondermeer onderdeel uit maakte van de discussie hoe we ons nu beter kunnen onderscheiden. Voordeel van deze frameworks is dat mobile apps in ieder geval niet beperkt worden tot slechts 1 platform, iets waar Jeffery Zelfman deze maand zeer terecht voor waarschuwde. Today I was listening to a talk by @MarcdeVries, CEO of Hyves RTV Oost, a local radio/television broadcaster. Hyves is the most popular social network in The Netherlands.
The points made by Marc de Vries were sensible, he knew what he was talking about. To be successful as a brand, whether you're a person or a corporation, you'll need to be authentic, compassionate, social, constructive and transparent. I know that is true, that's how you build quality relationships, essential for social relationships.
