While Creative Commons (which I, as a creator of the texts on this website, am using) is great when the creator is willing to publish their works under these conditions, when you’re sitting on a pile of data it may not always be clear what others can do with it. RightsStatements offers a limited set of sensible statements that describe how you and others can (or cannot) reuse the (derivative) works, and in which context. This makes querying fast datasets for re-usable content much easier
