Open source is stifling progress

A murb'ed feed, posted more than 3 years ago filed in open source, technology, society & unix.

Jonathan Edwards takes quite a stance on open source and what it contributes

Open source and Unix and the internet boom are all wrapped up together. They took over around the same time, 1996, and I blame them for the lack of much progress since.

TL;DR: open source may result in a stagnation, optimizing for stuff nerdy people want to make, and not addressing societies needs.

Which might be true, on the other hand, much of what I have been building is based on open source technology. But what while I have created some open source, most of my work is not open.
