@okias @janvlug i think with easily SaaSable solutions like #redis and #elasticsearch the power imbalance that resulted from #AWS reselling these as part of their package is not something that should be overlooked. It blocked a path of sustainable (for developers hacking on it full time) open source development. Sure, sell support, be creative, allow donations, do it in your spare time, get government funding… but what about the unfairness of mega corps piggybacking on ‘normal’ corps with less tax exemptions to their disposal and who cannot sell their products by just adding it to a list of services that are presented as basically free to the devops engineer? To my understanding it is still perfectly ok to run your own cluster of redis/elasticsearch on your own (or hired/virtualized) hardware. The power of AWS/Azure/Google needs to be fought here, and perhaps we should agree on licenses that help accomplish that without infringing on other freedoms too much?

An alternative idea might be to ditch #capitalism completely, which might be the better solution for everyone, but a kind of absolutist #free (as in #speech) without any restrictions is not only in software #licenses problematic…
