The title, “Can Facebook fix its own worst bug?” is posed as question, but in reality the problem is that Facebook is in doubt (or I’d like to hope so) whether or not it should fix the issue of fake news (whether it is a bug or a feature)? Much of the fake news, and other low quality clickbait, stories are generating much attention. Is Facebook an attention company or really trying to bring us the best experience? Or, when it upholds that grander idea, really willing to change the world (for better or worse)? I’m afraid in reality Facebook is foremost a company, with shareholders. Caring about value, monetary value, not ideals.
