I helped pioneer UX design. What I see today disturbs me

Excellent article by Jesse James Garrett, one of the founders of Adaptive Path, on the disappointing implementation of UX practices by companies that claim to have UX embedded in their process.

While I’m not an UX designer myself, I care about the user. And I’ve seen (and sometimes tried) how hard it is to make an organisation move into a direction that is really supportive of the user. Sometimes I rest myself assured that it is not my job.

But ultimately, (re)envisioning the entire user flow is what UX is about. Which might be reconsidering the entire user experience and how an organisation’s offering fit in to that. The current focus on fast agile delivery might deliver us a local optimum while the larger solution domain remains unexplored.
